Does Anyone know anything about Forward Facing Sonar. Does it work, or does it just scare you when a whale swims in front of your boat. Will it aid me in sailing solo?

I have heard from a couple of cruisers that have it and don't use it very often. Apparently they use a lot of DC amps and when your running under sail power that may be a problem. One cruiser friend has stated that the range is not as good as advertised and often by the time the radar reports an object your on it. I have not heard of anyone that is so sold on it that they jump up and down telling everyone. grant on board S/C Reality
