The Voyage of American Promise
The book written by solo-sailor Dodge Morgan is a good read. It is typical fare when placed next to many other seafaring books, the build up, the voyage and the eventual overcoming of the sea. Yet one cannot deny that he had an amazing trip and though the book can be dramatic, so can the sea and the author tells that story. The story is about Dodge, a wealthy business owner that retires to sail around the world -- the thought that many of us have, yet he does it. Not only does he want to circumnavigate, but he wants to do it alone and non-stop. The book reads like a diary and it weaves his emotions and back-stories quite well. It’s worth reading.
